No Tips. Learn on the Job.
I wrote about NLK before. This morning, she sent me an IM. She asked me if I am keeping something from her. I knew that she heard about my promotion so I think she's playing with me. I told her you must be asking about my promotion. She said "ya lor.. how come never tell?" I said, well, it was just announced. Then I asked if she has any tips. She said "No tips. Learn on the job!"
Somehow I felt offended by that remark.
And I thought about what I heard from the rumour mill - about how unpopular NLK is, as a manager. At one time, she had a very high staff turnover and some other managers were asked to counsel her staff, to act as a middle person, to find out what happened.
I am glad NLK didn't share any of her "tips". It would not have added any value :P

I guess NLK chosen her path ..to be unpopular but get things moving fast .. or be nice but things moving slow.
ReplyDeleteThere is no right or wrong way to become a manager! It's the environment you are in.
